ABOUT

Energy is the primary focus of Indonesia's Sustainable Finance Taxonomy (TKBI) in 2024, aiming to support efforts to protect and manage the environment as well as to mitigate and adapt to climate change through innovations in the development of green products/projects/initiatives.

The updated TKBI aims to minimize misinterpretations, greenwashing, social washing, and impact washing through a science-based framework. Additionally, TKBI is expected to enhance the allocation of capital and sustainable financing to support the achievement of Indonesia's net-zero emissions (NZE) targets.

However, in reality, coal-fired power plants (PLTU) still serve as a backbone for various industries, including a crucial role in the supply chain for clean technology industries such as electric vehicle batteries and solar panels.

So, how can the TKBI balance the efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with the reality that coal usage as an energy source remains widespread in Indonesia?

Bloomberg Technoz will address this issue at the upcoming annual Greenfest event to be held in November 2024.
